Grade 8 only (Enrichment)
Learn how to design and build a dragster racer. Students will shape and paint a wooden template into a dragster that will run on compressed air and launched on a 24-foot track. They will examine the principles of aerodynamic design, wheel friction, and laminar flow as they perfect their designs. Students will engage in friendly competitions as they race their cars on the track. They will then build and design a larger dragster made from base wood and balsa wood templates which are powered by CO2 and race them on an 80 foot track set up in the gymnasium. If time permits, students will also design an F1 car using CAD/CAM software and shape their car using a micro router.
